LOVE LETTERS! FONT AS IMAGE AND EXPRESSIVE TYPOGRAPHY

Medium: Typography workshop
Client: University of Applied Sciences Europe, Berlin
Year: 2013

At the invitation of the University of Applied Sciences Europe, Berlin, Florian Markl conceptualized a one-week workshop for experimental typography. On the basis of a theoretical introductory lecture, typographic functions and possibilities were examined in an experimental and playful way, well beyond their primary task of coding or disseminating information.
Through a range of experiments, the workshop treaded the line between image and writing. Digital and analog techniques and strategies were mixed and intentionally allowed to collide. The contrast of visual and technical character traits between hand drawing, computer graphics and photography enabled new creative and aesthetic perspectives.
The workshop documentation designed by the students is shown here. Cover design: Florian Markl (font: »Bodoni Bold«, blindly drawn by the workshop participants)

Studio photography: Florian Markl and Sebastiano Campoccia
